Homemade Sausage Gravy

Sausage gravy is a favorite at my house, we have it for special occasions or the random Saturday morning when someone requests it. We use spicy sausage so ours has a little kick to it, but not too much. Our son loves it and he is only 5 so it is a kid friendly meal! If you do not want spice, use regular sausage and do not add the cayenne pepper. If you do not use cayenne pepper, try a different spice in its place or add more salt and pepper.

This gravy is not very time consuming so it is a great breakfast to make when you do not have a lot of time. I keep extra sausage in the freezer so we can always make it. I use Jimmy Dean sausage, the 1 lb rolls freeze great. I usually try to cook the sausage ahead of time, if I know that we are going to make it, that makes it easier and faster.

Sausage gravy goes great over biscuits or hashbrowns, I have a great recipe for homemade hashbrowns here. If I use biscuits, we either make them or use Pillsbury flaky biscuits. I love pulling the layers apart! We have also used Bisquick to make biscuits, they are easy and we always have the mix on hand. Another option is to have it on toast. We have this for dinner sometimes. It makes a great meal for anytime of day!
