I recently decided to upgrade from the Fitbit Zip to the Fitbit Blaze. I have had my Zip for years and I love it, but after talking to some friends and researching the newer Fitbits, I decided I would try the Blaze. It has many features that the Zip does not have, but I would have to get used to wearing it on my wrist instead of clipped to my clothes.

I was very hesitant to try it, I haven't worn a watch in years so I did not know if it was something that I would actually wear. I also did not know if I would be allergic to it, I am allergic to a lot of things so it was a very big concern for me. I am happy to report that I do not mind wearing it, I actually like being able to check the time and it also tells me when I have a phone call or text message or other notifications from my phone so I do not have to carry my phone with me all the time. I love that. Also, I have had no allergic reaction to it! I am so happy about that. I have fallen in love with the watch and I would be devastated if I could not wear it at this point.
There are so many features on this watch, it not only tells you how far you have walked, how active you have been and how many steps you have taken like the Zip, it also tells you your heart rate, tells you how you sleep, it reminds you to stay active, it counts stairs, it gives you notifications from your phone and it has a timer.
I really love the heart rate monitor on it. I love that I can see which exercises are most effective. I also love that it gives me a more accurate calorie burn than the Zip. I love my Zip, but it only recognized workouts that you inputted or tracked. The Blaze will detect exercises and add them for you, I love that! The Zip is also using estimates on workouts since there is no heart rate monitor. I used to wear my Polar while lifting weights and when I would enter the information on my Zip, it was always very off for the calories. It doesn't know how many weights you are lifting or how intensely. My Blaze has very similar calorie burn to my Polar. I am sure neither is 100% accurate but at least they are using heart rate and it gives me something to go off of and see how hard I am pushing myself.
The main display shows the time and icons to show your progress for the day. There are several different styles you can pick, I chose this one because I can easily glance at it and know what is going on. Plus, I love that the time is so easy to see.

One of my favorite features on it is the exercise setting. You can either manually put in what exercise you are doing or you can just start the exercise and the watch will figure out what you are doing. So far, it has been 100% correct for me when I do not enter the exercise.
You can also do the workouts preset in the watch, just go to the tab that says Fitstar and you can pick from warm it up, 7 minute workout or 10 minute abs. They are short so you can do all 3 or you can pick to just do one or two. I think it is a neat little feature!
I love being able to track what I do, but with the Zip I had to enter the exercise myself or use my phone to track it. I did not always remember to enter it or set my phone so I would not always meet my goal at the end of the week. I love that the Blaze will detect an exercise and enter it for me. Then I can go look at the list and see what I have done and where I can improve. The charts help a lot also, you can see those on the Fitbit app.

The timer has come in handy for so many things! I can time my planks and other exercises. It is much easier to see the timer on the watch than it is for me to have to use my phone. It especially comes in handy when I am using my Simply Fit board, before I would have to have my phone in my hand so I could keep track of how long I was on it, but now I can just look at my wrist. Another nice thing about the timer is, you can go to other screens while using the timer. I love checking my heart rate so this is definitely a plus for me. I also use the timer for non fitness related things, like cooking. I have to say, this watch has been way more helpful than I thought it would be. I am impressed with all the different options on it.

Another benefit to having a Fitbit is, you can add friends to your friends list and you can see how many steps they have. You can even do competitions against each other. It makes it really fun! I like to have a little challenge so I push myself to get more steps. Unless of course I am on a Fitbit vacation! You can read about taking Fitbit vacations here.
