Review of Elin Hilderbrand's Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice is the fourth book in a series by Elin Hilderbrand. It follows a family that owns an Inn on Nantucket. It is Christmas time again, but this year there will be sadness mixed with the families Christmas celebration. There is also happiness, Bart is back from Afghanistan, and he has found a new love interest. All the other siblings have new things going for them also. As does Margaret, she will finally be retiring from her news job. Mitzi has a lot going on and will have to figure out how to handle life. Winter Solstice is full of emotions, just when you want to cry because of sadness, you want to cry from happiness! It is hard to put down, you just want to get to the next part to see what is going to happen.

Some books that are part of a series can be read out of order but I would not recommend that with this series. You would miss out on too much. This is the fourth book in the series and most of what happens in it is based on things that have happened in the previous books. If you read this book without reading the others, you may be missing out on too much information.

This book wraps up some of the lingering questions from the previous book, Winter Storms. I of course would love another book in this series to explain what happens to everyone next, but if that does not happen, I think this book did a great job wrapping up the Quinn Family story.

The first book in this series is titled Winter Street and it introduces the Quinn Family. They are definitely not your average family, which makes them all the more lovable, the series goes on to Winter Stroll, Winter Storms and finally Winter Solstice. The family has some major ups and downs through out the books, the best up is Bart coming home safely from Afghanistan and finding a new life at home on Nantucket. The biggest down, of course is the medical issues Kelley is facing. Through it all though, the family has found a way to stick together and try to always be there for each other. They do not always agree but in the end they always have each other.

These are the perfect Christmas stories, they have the magic of Christmas in them but also make you feel like the Quinn family is a real family. A family that is not perfect but that is real. They have real problems and their story is wonderfully written. I highly recommend this series, but make sure you start at the beginning! Below are the links to the books.
